Gareth Davis BMus PGCE QTS

Gareth Davis was born in the West Midlands in 1987 and first began playing music at the age of 5 when he started to learn the trombone and learnt his musical education in the Salvation Army. By 14 he had moved onto bass trombone and was playing regularly in the youth brass bands around the local area.

He moved to London at 16 to further his studies in Music and eventually gained a BMus at the University of Hull focusing on composition, arranging, solo performance and conducting.

He recently completed a teaching degree in secondary music.

As a performer, Gareth currently plays bass trombone for the Hebden Bridge Brass Band in Yorkshire and has experience playing in big bands, orchestras and Ska bands.

As a composer, Gareth writes mainly but not exclusively for brass bands, with choral and piano writing also of interest. His pieces have received critical acclaim from fellow performers and audience members alike and a number of brass band works have recently been published by the famous Kirklees Music publishing company.

His piece "Love theme from 'Giacomo: Adventures of a Legend'" was shortlisted for the final of the Ohio Brass Band Composers Competition in 2011.
